Installation of Domestic Microgeneration Equipment
Introduction.
PART 40 was introduced as an amendment to the 1995 GPDO by Statutory Instrument 2008 No 675 which came into force on the 6th April 2008.
The purpose of PART 40 is to grant permitted development rights for certain types of microgeneration equipment to be installed on houses, in gardens and on garden buildings. These permitted development rights also extend to flats.
Its made up as follows:
Class A: solar panels on a house or garden building
Class B: stand alone solar panels in a garden
Class C: ground source heat pumps
Class D: water source heat pumps
Class E: flues for biomass heating systems
Class F: flues for combined heat & power systems
PART 40 follows the same pattern as the rest of the GPDO in that it has main paragraphs that permit generally and sub-paragraphs which limit specifically.
